The foundation of private higher education in Azerbaijan was laid by the Azerbaijan University. Founded in 1991, Azerbaijan University operates in accordance with the requirements of the European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS).Education is conducted in Azerbaijani, English and Russian languages. There is a one-year language training program for students enrolled in English language specialties. The university is a member of international exchange programs such as Erasmus +, Mevlana and DAAD. Erasmus + program, the students are offered short-term training opportunities in Turkey and Europe's leading universities. The Mevlana program offers academic exchange opportunities with Turkish universities. Azerbaijan University is the first private university to teach a social work. Started in 2009, the University also recognized internationally recognized English language skills as the Pearson Test of Englsh (PTE) examination sub-center and internationally recognized computer skills as the ECDL (European Computer Driving License) as an Official Accreditation Test Center in Azerbaijan. Ukraine holds an International Joint and Dual Degrees with Kharkov National University of Radio Electronics. The program includes undergraduate and graduate degrees in computer science and computer engineering. There is a Dual Degree Program where students can be awarded diplomas in 2 different specialties in 4 years.
