The University of Rochester was established in 1850 as a private university. There are 6386 undergraduate studies available. The scholarly schedule depends on semesters. The University of Rochester prides itself on being one of the country's smallest and top research universities. The Laser Energetics Laboratory is located on the University's South Campus.
The university's Memorial Art Gallery is one of the best art museums in the country, with a permanent collection of world art from the 1950s. Artists such as Monet, Cézanne, Matisse, Homer, and Cassatt have created notable masterpieces.
The University's Middle Campus lies southwest of the Medical Center and is bordered on the south by the Erie Canal. The Helen Wood School of Nursing, the Saunders Research Building, and the majority of the staff parks are all located here.
