Things You Should Know About The University Of Illinois Chicago

The sole public research institution in the city is the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC). UIC began as a few private health faculties in 1965 and has since grown into a higher education institution with 15 colleges offering 86 postgraduate degrees and a range of multidisciplinary diploma programs. The university now boasts over 29,000 students, making it one of the most racially and culturally diverse student bodies in the country. UIC has a plethora of extracurricular activities.

A gym, volleyball and racquetball courts, jogging trails, climbing walls, and a 214,000-square-foot synthetic grass complex for football and baseball games are among the sports amenities. Tennis and basketball courts, as well as swimming pools, saunas, and a wellness center, are located in a separate outdoor complex. UIC also offers a free campus-only 'back to school' music event for students at the start of each academic year. On campus, a 10,000-seat multi-purpose facility allows convenient access to other big concerts and shows, while Gallery 400, a modern arts space, is at the heart of the Chicago arts scene.

UIC Campuses

More than 28,000 students and 2,400 teachers and staff are served by UIC's three campuses.

East Campus

The school lies on Chicago's Near West Side, just south of Greektown and a 15-minute walk from the city center.

West Campus

Some older, gothic-style structures may be seen on the West Campus, which is also located in the West End. On the West Campus, you'll find the Faculty of Medicine, the Colleges of Pharmacy, Nursing, Dentistry, Applied Health Sciences and Public Health, and the Health Sciences Library.

South Campus

Marie Robinson Hall and Thomas Beckham Hall are two apartment-style structures on South Campus.
