The University of Glasgow is the fourth oldest university in English-speaking countries, having been founded in 1451. The University of Glasgow, which is located in Scotland's main city, is one of the top 100 institutions in the world, with 20,000 students from over 120 countries enrolled. When foreign students arrive at Glasgow Airport, the Welcome Team welcomes them and provides free transportation to their new student housing. The International Student Service also hosts an orientation session for international students at the start of the semester to assist them in settling in. International students can also take pre-sessional English classes.

In the 2014 Research Excellence Framework, the University of Glasgow did well once again. Since the 2008 evaluation, the fraction of research classified as "world-leading" has more than doubled (31 percent ). Glasgow has risen to 12th place in the United Kingdom and second place in Scotland. This development affects the university's four colleges. Accommodation is provided for international students who apply by the deadline (typically in August). Accommodation units with a maximum capacity of 3,500 people are located on the city's northwestern outskirts, about a 45-minute walk from the main campus.
In addition, the Accommodation Office aids students in locating private rental housing in and around Glasgow. Private flats, shared houses, and hostels are all viable options.
Gilmorehill and Garscube are the two main city campuses of Glasgow University. In Dumfries, south of Glasgow, the university maintains a third campus. Both city campuses offer good public transportation and metro connections to the city center. Glasgow International Airport, Glasgow Prestwick Airport, and two train terminals provide convenient access to the rest of the United Kingdom and the rest of the globe.
