York University was created in the city of York, which is steeped in history. The university, which was founded in 1963, includes a number of partner colleges. It is made up of nine colleges that provide students with housing and academic instruction.
In previous years, Times Higher Education and the Sunday Times have honored York University “University of the Year.” It is also one of the six postwar institutions that has been ranked among the top 100 universities in the world. The Queen's Anniversary Prize for Archeology, Computer Science, and Health Economics has been presented to the University.
York University places a strong emphasis on extracurricular activities as well. The York Award, for example, aims to improve employability by providing free second language tuition to first-year students, as well as strong sports support, job placements, and volunteer opportunities.
Free interviews and orientation sessions are held by the international student office to assist all international students with visa, banking, job, and other issues.
The university features a foreign student support service and an English language teaching section that provides all international students with university-funded language courses, including one-on-one tutoring and summer schools.

In the 2014 Research Excellence Framework, York University was rated 14th in the United Kingdom. One of the highest proportions of research in the “world-leading” category among UK institutions. The university's eight departments placed in the top five in their respective fields.
Foreign students who apply by the application deadline at York University are guaranteed housing for the length of their studies.
All of the university's lodging options are either on the main campus or within walking distance. With a total of 4,000 rooms, each college has its own housing facilities. On both campuses, there are eating options and most rooms have private bathrooms.
York, with its majestic York Minster church and one of England's two archbishops, remains the ecclesiastical center of the north of England. Some areas have a vast range of architecture, including the ancient Roman city walls.
York is a culturally rich city with a plethora of theaters, symphony venues, tiny independent cinemas, and eateries. By train, London is about two hours distant, and the major university campus is only a 20-minute walk from the city center.
