The University of Washington is a famous and big higher education institution on the west coast of the United States. Founded in 1861 as Washington Regional University, the university grew with Seattle in the late 1990s and early 2000s, eventually relocating to its current location in 1895. The 700-acre park-like campus in Seattle, which is bordered by two lakes, currently has 16 faculties and colleges providing courses from undergraduate to doctorate levels. Undergraduate and graduate degrees are available at the university's Bothell and Tacoma campuses.
Serving medical centers throughout the Pacific Northwest and Alaska is a well regarded medical school that offers dental, medical, and public health education. Traditional students can participate in public service in the region by taking courses in disciplines including education, engineering, public affairs, and social work. The institution also provides online learning and nighttime programs, emphasizing outreach and expansion options. Seattle is a metropolis of over 650,000 people located between Puget Sound and Lake Washington, 100 miles south of the Canadian border. It is a large location for technological firms, including the headquarters of companies such as Amazon and Microsoft in the region.

According to U.S. News, admission to the UW main campus in Seattle, which had a 45 percent acceptance rate in 2016, might be challenging.
