Humboldt University was founded in 1809 under the name "Universität zu Berlin / Berlin University" and started its activities in the autumn semester of 1810. Humboldt University is the second largest university in Berlin. Its headquarters are located in the "Palais des Prinzen Heinrich" on the famous Unter den Linden boulevard in the Mitte district of Berlin.
Humboldt University is one of the 20 most important universities in Germany, and it is among the 20 most distinguished universities called "Eliteuniversitäten" in Germany. Among its graduates are 29 Nobel Prize-winning scientists.
