Sumqayit State University (Azerbaijan: Sumqayıt Devin University) is a state university in Sumqayit, Azerbaijan. Founded in 1961, the company operated as a remote branch of the Azerbaijan State Oil Academy until its independence as the Azerbaijan Industrial Institute in 1992. It was renamed Sumgayit State University on June 13, 2000. More than 3,500 students are trained for undergraduate degrees in 17 directions and 200 students for master's degrees in 28 specialties in seven departments: Mechanical-mathematics, Physics and Electrical Energy Engineering, Chemistry, Computer Techniques and Technologies, Economics, History and Philology. Sumqayıt State University is the main university of Sumgait, the third largest city of Azerbaijan.
