The University of Southern Denmark was established in 1998 when Odense University, the Southern Denmark School of Business and Engineering and the South Jutland University Centre were merged. Research, teaching, communication and the transfer of knowledge at SDU are grouped into five academic faculties with 115 different programmes in total:The Faculty of Humanities, The Faculty of Science, The Faculty of Business and Social Sciences, The Faculty of Health Sciences, and The Faculty of Engineering. Because of having many alternatives to choose, graduates of the University of Southern Denmark are now members of virtually every profession in the international community. The campuses of the university are represented in 6 cities: Odense, Esbjerg, Kolding, Copenhagen, Slagelse, and Sønderborg - all with main focus on education and research. Odense is the main campus of SDU, and nearly all the university’s programmes are represented there. SDU Odense also offers a wide variety of facilities ranging from a fitness centre and Friday bar to a room for reflection.
