George Washington University was established in 1821 as a private university. It boasts about 11 thousand undergraduate students, is located in the city, and has a campus that is 43 acres in size. The academic calendar is based on semesters. The location of George Washington University in downtown Washington, DC is perfect for those interested in politics and city life. The Virginia Science and Technology Campus, located in Ashburn, Virginia, is GW's research and academic hub. There are 17 research laboratories, centers, and institutes on the site that work to further knowledge in a variety of multidisciplinary disciplines.
