Undoubtedly university education is the last step from being a student to real life. Most of the taboos concerning our past education habits are broken in a university, but why?
In university education;
- There is no break time bell,
- there is no dress code,
- you may have hours or even days of free time between your courses,
- you could have classmates from other cities or from different countries.
This will be an adequate introduction for now. On the other hand, let’s take a look at what students anticipate from university and university life.
Meeting new people will always be in your life but in university, this will grow exponentially. If you are in the same course, you will meet people that have the same academic interests as you. You'll meet some new roommates and neighbors with whom you may form an official university family. Even remembering a period when these folks were not in your life might become strange to you after a while.
The excitement of adapting to a new city, discovering new socialization places that you were used to before, discovering a new favorite coffee shop… This new city you will live in for 4 years or more is already a candidate to be your new hometown.
Those who choose to study abroad for their university education may be the most fortunate to have unique experiences. This is a fantastic opportunity to meet new people from all around the world, learn about various cultures, and expand your horizons.
Are you already a member of a sports club or a community? You will most likely find a way to keep it going in university as well. Many universities encourage students to participate in extracurricular activities, whether it's a competitive sport or just for fun, such as music, theater, or anything else. You can even form a new club with students who share your interests!
Not sure what you want to do when you finish university? Are you not planning ahead of time? Universities typically provide career support and coaching to their students. During your undergraduate degree, contacting companies that accept students for work experience, internships, and placements will be a crucial step toward your future career.
Being away from your family and living alone will provide you with a great deal of freedom. You will improve not just as a student, but also as a person.
Learning new “adult” life skills is a vital aspect of this new independence for students going to university following high school. Whether it's managing house chores, paying bills, or broadening your food repertoire, university life forces many people to take on additional responsibilities.
In the face of the numerous exciting opportunities available at university, knowing your boundaries is critical. Will you be able to manage your university, social life, and other obligations as soon as you start university? Saying no to certain things requires self-discipline, which will pay off in university life and afterward.
This is likely a talent you will develop in between academic work, extracurricular activities, and other commitments. Keeping track of your obligations and making time for social entertainment can test you a little in terms of time management, especially when all the wonderful events are coming your way.
Developing budgeting skills will be critical whether you take out a maintenance loan or work part-time to help with living expenses while you study. Making sure you have enough money to socialize in order to pay for food, rent, electricity, and any course materials is a valuable skill that will serve you well throughout your life.
