The academic calendar is based on semesters. Tuition and costs for in-state students are $11,644, while tuition and fees for out-of-state students are $32,449. The University of Arizona in Tucson, one of the state's biggest public universities, provides students with athletics, a diverse range of activities and academic opportunities, as well as several student groups. The Pac-12 Conference has hosted NCAA Division I teams such as the Arizona Wildcats.
Both undergraduate and graduate students participate in research projects at UA, which is a research university. Despite the fact that 80% of students live on campus, there is no obligation to do so. Reality television actress Kourtney Kardashian and journalist Geraldo Rivera are also UA graduates.
The main campus is one mile from downtown Tucson in central Tucson. On the main campus, there are 179 structures. Roy Place, a well-known Tucson architect, created several of the structures, including the Arizona State Museum buildings and Centennial Hall. The brick facades at this location are red, which is a fundamental and common feature of virtually all UA structures constructed in recent years. Almost every UA building has red brick as a significant architectural element, or at the very least as a stylistic accent to blend in with the rest of the campus.
One of the largest student unions, the modern and expansive Student Union building, opened in 2003. Multicultural, social, athletic, and intellectual student clubs and campus groups abound at the University of Arizona. The Arizona Blue Chip Program, one of the biggest college-level leadership development programs in the United States, is also housed at CSIL, with approximately 500 active students participating at any given moment over a four-year period. Camp Wildcat, a youth-serving non-profit organization, maintains an office at CSIL. Clubs are given tools and incentives to pursue unusual interests thanks to supporting from CSIL and the University of Arizona's Associated Students.
