Established in 1877, the Technische Universitat Darmstadt is an open research university, which is also known as the Darmstadt University of Technology. The university majorly focuses on the field of engineering. The first branch opened by the university was Electrical Engineering. Meetings were held to discuss the extension and improvement of the academic structure that provides quality education in the technical department. During 1968, the university initiated the student movement at both regional and national levels. The movement aimed at making better university structures and involving all the faculty members in the decision-making process. By the late twentieth century, the university was granted the status of a university. Also, it widened the course structure by adding numerous subjects in graduate degree programs.
