Scrum, one of the Agile software development frameworks, has three Scrum roles: Scrum Master, Product Owner and Development Team. The Scrum Master character we'll cover in this list is the servant leader of the team. If you say what Scrum is, let's take you like this: "Scrum is a framework where people can solve complex / complex and adaptive problems while creatively presenting products with the highest possible value." In other words, it is a process management framework that we can apply while developing complex products with a group of people. Although it has been implemented since the 1990s, it has become popular today, especially in the software community. Scrum has its own theory, values, roles, and rituals.
These two words are phrases that best describe the Scrum Master. In recent years, while the traditional management has been replaced by leadership, the color of the work has really changed twofold when the servant leader is mentioned. First of all, it is useful to underline that: Scrum Masters in Scrum Teams are never the managers of those teams. Scrum Masters are the people who know the Scrum Guide very well and support the implementation of Scrum, help, guide and guide the team to maximize the value produced by the Scrum team. It works on a voluntary basis from beginning to end. In a Scrum Team, when the Scrum Master is selected, first volunteers become a candidate for the role, then all team members express their opinions or vote, and the candidate with whom everyone agrees is determined as the Scrum Master. Scrum Master can also be an individual on the development team.
The Scrum Master guides the team, helping them eliminate the obstacles they encounter. They strive to increase the harmony within the team, the harmony between the team members, and the communication. Provides team development, guides and supports development in agility and scrum issues. They coach the team so that it can be self-organized and cross-functional. They facilitate Scrum rituals / meetings such as Sprint Planning, Sprint Retrospective, Daily Scrum, and Sprint Review. It helps the team to achieve the highest value while producing. Apart from these tasks in the Scrum Guide, it is actually Scrum Master's responsibility to protect the team metaphorically like a shepherd dog. The shepherd dog is a powerful metaphor for the Scrum Master position, which has been used in many sources and is very expressive. The Scrum Master must ensure that the team can work in a safe and trouble-free environment, and provide many services, including individual coaching to team members when necessary.
Scrum Master makes sure that the jobs determined by the product owner are understood by everyone on the team; helps the product owner by finding techniques to organize their work list effectively; It guarantees the competence of the product owner in matters such as prioritizing the work, determining the value of the works, maximizing the value generation of the development team; It manages / facilitates scrum activities in line with the needs of the product owner and when requested, and never withholds its service from the product owner in understanding product planning, understanding and applying agility in an experimental environment.
Scrum Masters are servant leaders not only for the teams they are in, but also for all other departments and the entire organization they work in. They are obliged to spread and adopt Scrum's theory and values throughout the organization, to lead the scrum adaptation and to coach the entire company in this context. Scrum Masters communicate with each other, share their experiences and help each other. They do their best to increase the productivity of Scrum teams. They explain in practice what experimental product development means to the whole organization.
In addition to all these tasks, Scrum Masters lead the change. They try to create a value perception and break the plan perception in the organization. The Scrum Master is the embodiment of Scrum and agile change in the organization.
